From the book:
A Note to Young Cooks
Celebrate a Swedish holiday with Surprise Rice Pudding.
Lunch Italian-style on Hero Sandwiches. Sip a taste of China with Won Ton Soup. The recipes in this book link you with the cooks and customs of many lands. If you've cooked with our first cookbook, Many Hands Cooking, you will already be familiar with some international foods. In this book you'll discover delicious new tastes and foods and even new ways of eating-with chopsticks, for instance.
We have tried to keep the recipes as authentic as possible; however, some have been adapted for young cooks. Each one has a code—one, two, or three spoons—to give you an idea of its difficulty. (See page v.) Most of the ingredients in the recipes are available in supermarkets, but a few call for a trip to a health-food store or specialty food market.
Before starting to cook, read the sections on safety and measuring and the helpful hints. And while you're cooking, don't hesitate to look back at the cooking terms and equipment if you come across something that you re not sure of.
On many pages you'll notice people wearing their national costumes. These costumes are a beautiful part of a country's culture and history. Of course, in most countries today, these clothes are worn only for holidays and special events.
We hope you will enjoy using this book. Have fun!

What is a junk journal?
A junk journal is a handmade book filled with a mix of papers, ephemera, and embellishments—both new and vintage. It's perfect for writing, memory keeping, art journaling, or creative play. No two are alike! Pages may include book pages, scrapbook paper, envelopes, tags, fabric, and more. You can write in it, glue things in, or just enjoy flipping through its unique textures and layers. It’s called a “junk” journal, but it’s truly a treasure!
